Covid-19's Unforgettable Gig

Many, many years ago, in a land far away existed heaven. It was my home. I remember waking up that morning excited for the famous death metal band Covid-19's concert.

I was a security guard at Gate 1 of Heaven. Today was going to be the best day of my job. Preparations were on for the gig at the very next gate. I gazed at it in awe with a child's curiosity and loved the entire hula hoop around it. It was one of those rare days I couldn't wait to get off duty.

Quick as a wink, it was 7 p.m., and I found myself standing in the front row of the gig—a sea of immortals outside Gate 0. The entire heaven was present. Over here, everyone was high above the ground and off the drug of life.

Enter the lead singer, and he starts with his famous line, "Dedicated to all you here who did not believe in us when we started!"

Bam!

I woke up. It could be a dream or a nightmare. It's up to me to decide what to make of it. The clock was ticking at midnight on March 10. I immediately drank some water and quickly ordered a pair of masks and sanitiser.

It was going to be a long haul. But I was awake.

Thank you for reading. I wrote this (very) short story for Revanth's podcast channel. You can check out his other works here. And you can get in touch with me on Instagram here.
